Reading: We will be starting our book clubs this week. Students will be reading this book along with their independent reading book. We will also begin to focus on identifying common themes in fictional text. Students will work with common themes by reading passages and using the plot to determine the theme. We will also continue to work on Reading Comprehension skills with closed reading passages about Veterans Day, Matter, and other topics of study. Learning Target: I can determine a theme of a story from details in the text, including how characters in a story or drama respond to challenges or how the speaker in a poem reflects upon a topic; summarize the text. Language Arts: In writing we will begin our informational text pieces. W e will begin by selecting our topic and begin the research process. We will use online resources along with books and magazines from our library. Learning Target: I can write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas
