Weekly Update


Classroom Information
  • Graded papers were sent home today, and grades have been entered in Parent Vue
  • IOWA testing is next week – September 9 – 12   
  • No homework during testing
  • Our next spelling activities & test will be Sept. 17th
  • Please check Parent Vue by Friday to see mid quarter grades (this is in place of paper progress reports).  Let me know if you have any questions.
  • September Break – Sept. 23 – 27
Homework
I will be posting homework on the blog daily.  Please check the blog to see your student's homework assignments. Your student should also be writing the assignments in the agenda.

Reading
Reading Benchmark Assessments will continue this week.  We'll continue the novel: Fish in a Tree. Students will continue to use the UNWRAP strategy in their reading passages.

 Language/Writing
LAD this week will focus on the following concepts: Comma usage, conjunctions, figurative language, prepositions, verb usage.  We will go to the Writing Lab on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week to work on Narrative Writing. 

Math 
This week we will begin understanding the Place Value System.

Focus on our studies Nov. 11th

Reading: We will be starting our book clubs this week.  Students will be reading this book along with their independent reading book. We   will also begin to focus on identifying common themes in fictional text. Students will work with common themes by reading passages and using the plot to determine the theme. We will also continue to work on Reading Comprehension skills with closed reading passages about Veterans Day, Matter, and other topics of study.    Learning Target: I can determine a theme of a story from details in the text, including how characters in a story or drama respond to challenges or how the speaker in a poem reflects upon a topic; summarize the text.  Language Arts:  In writing we will begin our informational text pieces. W e will begin by selecting our topic and begin the research process. Social Studies Westward Expansion Review

The Social Studies Unit test is scheduled for Thursday, August 27th.
